Earlier I posted images my Freakshow Malapropostcards pictures. Since they have gone over well, I have now compiled these freaks into prints as well. One is 11″x17″ and the other is 6″x11″. Both will be available at Phoenix Comicon 2012 at my artist alley table.

The 6″x11″ also includes the tag “Step Right Up to Marvel at the Strange and Beautiful Anoma-ladies.”

I really love a good bittersweet tale, almost as much as I like dystopian stories. One where there is a love story and then things go horribly awry and people are dying off left and right due to misunderstandings and miscommunication, like “Romeo & Juliet.” Too bad they didn’t have texting back then. Maybe Romeo would have gotten the message in time. He probably would have sent back one of those annoying one-word text messages that boys like to do:

Juliet: Oh Romeo! I am going to drink some potion so I appear dead to my stupid family. They don’t understand me! Do not fear tho, I shall be alive and meet you later so we can make out. I love you more than the stars and the moons. lol :* <3 :* <3 :*

Romeo: OK

Still, what better story of love and loss than these star crossed lovers? I used to think the term “star-crossed” meant that their love was so rare that only when some cosmic anomaly occurred would it present itself on Earth. Alas and alack, actually “Star-crossed” means that their love it thwarted by outside forces, or rather people that should really have minded their own business. So, I was wrong but I think my assessment was a bit more romantic.

Anyway, here is my take on a “Romeo & Juliet” prints. I tried to go Art Deco on this one and make it a piece that would really look good hanging above a bed, next to the balcony or even the bathroom. “…a rose by any other name would smell as sweet?”

Romeo & Juliet prints will be available in both 11×17 and 8×10 sizes at the 2012 Phoenix Comicon.

More Nevermore

This just came back from the printers and I couldn’t be happier. My ink splatter version of Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Raven.”

I created the original ink piece for this print by first roughing out the design, where I would want the ravens to be hacking away at poor Edgar’s head and how to make a nice subtle transition between crazy hairdo and attack of the birds. Then I dripped black ink directly out of the bottle onto the paper. For the wings I used a brush to sweep the ink giving the wings a feeling of movement, but many times I would leave the ink blots if it nicely made up a bird’s head or beak. Then I scanned it into the computer and added the first and last stanzas of the poem making sure that key words were visible. Lastly, I added the aged parchment in the background.

This is not my typical style but I chose for this piece because 1. I love splattering ink and making a mess!! and 2. Because I wanted it to looks like Edgar got interrupted while writing by an unkindness of ravens and they got into his inkwell.

We will also have “The Raven” guitar pick necklaces and square magnets. All are a short print run so get ‘em while they last. I will be haunting the Artist Alley with my very own table.
